Myfaith in Doctors has been restored! After several agonizing weeks, my wife was referred to Dr. Johans. He immediately ascertained the cause of her pain. I will never forget his words. " If you were my sister, I would operate on you tomorrow." She is not his sister but he treated her like one during the whole process. She had instant relief from the surgery.Everything happened just like he said. Not only is he a brilliant surgeon but his caring and gentle manner was greatly appreciated. Thank you for treating my wife like your sister. I am forever in your debt.
"I had my second surgery on July 12 2011. I was suffering terrible pain in my siatica, but it turned out to be cysts and spurs on my lower back.I put myself in his gifted hands and I'm doing quite well. He is a humble man and I have all the faith in him as he gives God the credit. I truly love this man of God."
“I recently ruptured a disc and was referred to Dr. Johans. I totally believe that this was by devine guidance. I recently stated to my wife I am so glad that I ruptured my disc because it allowed me to have the back surgery that I probably never have gone for voluntarily. My condition was a seriously herniated disc and additional disc issues near the herniated disc. Additionally I had bone issues inside the spinal column causing serious stress on the nerve column.
I have been a very active individual playing sports (basketball, fast pitch softball and soccer) for many years up through my 60th birthday. I have been a professional soccer referee for nearly 30 years and currently a NCAA college referee.
In the recent years I was struggling with back pain, leg pain and numbness in my legs and feet. I apparently herniated a degrading disc in a work out in the gym.
Dr. Johans has given me back my health related to my back issues. In Dr Johan's words he said the condition was worse than he had expected from viewing the MRI. Within a couple hours of surgery I was up and walking. About four hours after the surgery the IV pain medicine was removed. I have not experienced any pain. I did not take the pain medication after I was release from the hospital. I only have taken the ADVIL for control of inflammation. I have been walking moderately since the surgery. After my visit with the DR. two weeks after surgery I have started my own therapy at the gym following the directions of Dr Johans.
I want to thank Dr. Johans for what he has done for me as he has totally changed my future. I am a 71 year old athlete who plans to be very active for many more years.
Thank you Dr. and GOD BLESS YOU!!!”
“I cannot thank Dr. Johans enough. He gave me my quality of life back. I mowed my lawn for the first time in over a year! That may not sound like a lot to someone without back pain, but, to those of us who have suffered with back pain for years and have basically lived our days around the pain...something like mowing the lawn is a HUGE accomplishment.
I could feel the difference in my back and legs the minute I woke up from surgery. The first face I saw was Dr. Johans and he asked me if I had feeling in my toes and lower leg. I remember having a big smile come across my face because the answer to his question was "YES".
My pain after surgery was minimal, compared to the pain I had been living with prior. The first day after surgery I was on the treadmill walking a mile a day and by week 2 post-op I was no longer taking any pain medication.
My back feels so good and so strong that I have a hard time remembering I am only 8 weeks post-op.
My experience has been so amazing I have already referred others to Dr. Johans...Thank you Dr. Johans for giving me my life back:)”
“When I came in to see Dr Johans, I was not wanting surgery. I was told that he performed surgeries on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and that they like to clear insurance prior to surgeries.
My first appt with Dr Johans was on a Thursday morning, and I was seeing him for leg numbness and foot drop. I had been experiencing the foot drop for approximately a week and a half.
Upon seeing me, he quickly said "Tomorrow morning at 9 am".
It was Easter weekend, and he had family plans. He put aside his personal plans to fix my situation.
I can't say thank you enough to Dr Johans for being so compassionate, and quick to act. His sacrifice for me has meant so much.
The surgery went well, and I could immediately feel that the pain was gone. I went home that same day, went back to work (a few hours) two weeks later, and 4 weeks out I am feeling more like my 'normal' self.
Dr Johans is one of my heroes, and I am so thankful that I went to him....and so thankful for his God given talents :)”
"I was experiencing significant pain in my low back and loss of feeling in my leg. I am an attorney in town who routinely encounters doctors treating a variety of back problems and injuries. I selected Dr. Johans because of his reputation for skill and competence. What I found in addition to his great medical capacity is that he was straightforward and personable; that I could talk to him and that he wanted to help me understand. That level of trust, in additional to his first rate medical care, was much appreciated. Right after my surgery I could walk normally again and have had a great recovery. I would recommend Dr. Johans to anyone."
Patients who had cervical surgery had this to say
"I had fallen in December 2010 and took a month to go see a doctor, it then took 3 more months before my doctor referred me to Dr. Johans. He explained to me what had happened and I need a Discetomy & fusion, it is a very scary as you go into research of what needed to be done. Then April 12th 2011 I had my surgery. Dr. Johans and his staff explained everything to me so well, of what to expect, and what I needed to do. I was raised by a surgical nurse so I value nurse opinions of doctors, every nurse in the hospital spoke so highly of Dr.Johans that I knew I was in good hands. I am still doing still doing my physical therapy and go back in July to Dr. Johans and will continue to do what he says to complete my recovery."
"I needed four (4) cervical vertebrae fused together. Dr. Johans told me what he was going to do and how he was going to do it in very understandable terms. The surgery was a very difficult one...I would never have know it if I hadn't been told because I came out of surgery feeling good as expected. All of the pain in my arms is gone, and after 30 days my strength is back and it's hard to believe I even had surgery. I have a lot of respect for what Dr. Johans can do. He came recommended to me by a doctor and I am passing on the recommendation."
"In early 2000, I had been moving large rocks for a rock garden when my left shoulder and arm became extremely painful. I went to a hopital emergency room, and was given a prescription for pain and referred to a back surgeon. The surgeon's office arranged for some steroid shots, that did not help. I then decided to try a chiropractor, who informed me after serveral treatments, that he was not helping me, and referred me to Dr. Johans.
By the time I scheduled my appointment with Dr. Johans, my left forearm and hand were going numb, and starting to atrophy. I was told by Dr. Johans that I probably waited to long to correct the damage, but he could stop any further damage.
Dr. Johans operated, and placed a metal plate in my upper neck. The surgery went well and was virtually painless. I only used a few of my prescribed pain pills and my condition did not worsen.
Since that first neck operation, Dr. Johan's has performed a carpel tunnel operation, an ulner nerve operation and a second neck surgery. All have been virtually painless, and successful.
A recent MRI on my lower back has been described by Dr. Johans as "nasty" and may eventually need back surgery.
My left leg is numb, but I have no pain, so at 77 years old, I am just waiting to see if time will spare me what Dr. Johans has described as a very complicated, delicate, operation.
However, If I do need back surgery you can bet that Dr. Johans will be my surgeon of choice."
"Before I had my surgery I experienced so much pain in my cervical spine it was crippling. Now only one month later I am pain free, and I'm back to doing the things I love. Thank you Dr. Johans for giving me back my life."
"Dr Johans has changed my life! Four months ago I had a 3-level cervical correction, fusion & stabilization surgery. Just hours after surgery I was up walking in the hall. I could already feel that my posture was straighter, my balance better & my pain level improved! After 10 years of back pain which progressed into pain with numbness & weak limbs, I am nearly pain free! Believe me, I am not the easiest patient. I am 64 years old. My extra pounds, diabetes, hypertension & sleep apnea added up to a complicated case. I highly recommend Doc Johans. He is a true professional who explains all opions very well. After all you can only make good treatment decisions if you have all the facts. THANK YOU DR JOHANS. I am happy to say that my quality of life is very good, now. In fact, my wife says the improvement is nothing short of miraculous."
Patients who had spinal cord stimulation had this to say
"I had 2 ruptured discs, and a pinched sciatic nerve. First surgery went very well. But a month later back into surgery with the same thing. I was doing good after second surgery, but I still had pain from my lower back to the ends of my toes. Dr. Johans explained to me that it was nerve damage. I had gone to physical therapy, and still no relief. Dr. Johans told me about the Spinal cord stimulator, which he explained how it worked and that I would get relief. I agreed . I had the trial put in, and to my surprise, I finally felt relief.I would highly recommend getting the stimulator to everyone !! I am not completely out of pain,But it has
reduced the pain dramatically. I am not having to take pain pills like I was eating candy. The worse part for me was healing from where the implant was placed in my back. But that was well with it. I would definitely recommend Dr. Johans. He is caring, understanding, he listens, and explains all options to you. And I have to say to his staff Kelly and Brian (P.A)They are just as awesome as Dr. Johans. You guys are the BEST!! "
Patients who had brain surgery had this to say
"I am a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor survivor of 14 years because of God's plan and the skills of Dr. Johans. On Easter Sunday March, 30, 1997, I had a brain aneurysm and a serious brain tumor that had to be removed immediately. Dr. Johans performed the surgery that very day. He is a remarkable and caring surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone!"
"I have decided to continue skiing this fall as I feel GREAT. I have purchased the best protective helmet I could find, designed for alpine competition skiing. I plan to take it slower, of course! My wife continues to snowshoe but I enjoy skiing with our twin 8-year old grandsons and their parents! Thanks again for your marvelous surgical skill and compassion!"
"Dr Johans, with God's help, saved my life! A few weeks after suffering a head injury skiing on Christmas Day 2010, I developed a massive subdural hematoma of the left side of my head. After a CT scan on January 31, Dr Johans scheduled surgery for the following day. Following the surgery, Dr Johans carefully explained to me and my family the seriousness of the injury and the successful results. After a three-month follow-up scan and evaluation by Dr Johans, I am considered fully recovered with no side effects. My family and I have been extremely impressed with both the professionalism and caring attitude of Dr Johans and his staff. They were, and have been since the surgery, magnificent! My wife Joyce and I thank you Dr Johans and your staff for our new life. We have complete faith in Dr Johans and highly recommend him to whoever may need his help."

"Dear Dr Johans, Thank you SOOO much for seeing me, yesterday, and being quick to act. I can't tell you how much your attention, concern, and patience in explaining meant to both myself and my husband.
